Chapter 12 - The Command She Almost Lost

The Army review board met to decide whether Allison remained eligible to lead the new humanitarian-response unit.
Her incision was still healing.
She required physical therapy.
Some officers questioned whether a mother of newborn twins could assume a demanding command position.
Allison appeared in uniform.
She did not pretend recovery was easy.
“I am healing from surgery.”
A general asked, “Can you meet operational demands?”
“Yes, under the same medical standards applied to any officer recovering from an injury.”
“Will your custody case become a distraction?”
“My children are not a distraction.”
The room became quiet.
Allison continued.
“The criminal actions committed against me should not be treated as evidence that I lack readiness.”
Colonel Hale testified next.
“Captain Grant protected two infants while injured, preserved evidence, followed medical guidance, and maintained judgment under extreme pressure.”
He looked directly at the board.
“I would trust her decisions in any crisis.”
The Army confirmed that Eric had interfered with official correspondence.
The missed acceptance deadline was restored.
Allison received six months to recover before assuming full command.
She would begin with planning duties that did not require travel.
The Army did not force her to choose between motherhood and leadership.
Eric had lied when he said one identity made the other impossible.
Allison accepted the appointment.
At the private ceremony, both twins slept beside Colonel Hale.
Megan attended.
So did employees who helped expose the fraud.
Afterward, Hale handed Allison a medal Lorraine had thrown into the snow.
It had been cleaned and restored.
“Your father loved this one,” he said.
“He also told me your greatest weakness was believing strength meant carrying everything alone.”
Allison smiled sadly.
“He was right.”
“Then learn to disappoint him.”
Meanwhile, Grant Defense placed Allison’s shares into a protected structure.
No spouse, guardian, or outside investor could control them through the twins.
The corporate motive behind the custody scheme was destroyed.
Then Dana called from a secure location.
Her voice shook.

“My father knows where your new house is.”
👉 Allison regained her command—but Wallace Crowley was preparing one final threat against her children and every witness who could expose him.
