Chapter 6 - The Emergency Board Meeting

The next morning, Eric entered the Grant Defense boardroom in a tailored suit.
Dana sat behind him as Crowley Capital’s representative.
Wallace Crowley joined by video.
Eric opened with a carefully rehearsed statement.
“My wife is a decorated officer, but childbirth and unresolved military trauma have caused a severe psychiatric crisis.”
The board chair, Evelyn Ross, frowned.
“Has Captain Grant been formally evaluated?”
“She was readmitted after a violent episode.”
Dana lowered her eyes.
“She attacked us when we tried to calm her.”
Before Eric could continue, the main screen activated.
Allison appeared from her hospital bed.
Her face was pale.
Colonel Hale’s dress jacket rested around her shoulders.
“Please describe the attack,” she said.
Eric froze.
Evelyn looked toward the screen.
“Captain Grant, we were told you were unavailable.”
“I was thrown against a wall three days after abdominal surgery.”
Dana leaned forward.
“That is not what happened.”
Allison played the recording.
Dana’s voice filled the boardroom.
Mom provokes her. We record the reaction and use it for custody.
Then Eric’s voice followed.
Anything that happens after discharge is her responsibility.
The board members stared at him.
Eric stood.
“This was illegally recorded.”
The company attorney answered.
“It was recorded on Captain Grant’s own phone inside her residence.”
Allison displayed the financial transfers from Megan’s drive.
Wallace Crowley immediately disconnected.
Dana reached for her purse.
Allison’s voice stopped her.
“Sit down.”
Dana glared at the screen.
“You do not command me.”
“No. But federal investigators may want to know why restricted defense-contract money was transferred to your father’s companies.”
Grant Defense produced military rescue equipment.
Some stolen funds were tied to federal contracts.
The issue had become more than marital fraud.
The board voted unanimously to suspend Eric.
Security entered.
Eric stared at Allison.
“You think you won?”
“No,” she said quietly. “I think you finally stopped hiding.”
Dana moved away from him.
“You said my father would protect us,” Eric whispered.
Dana’s face became cold.
“He’ll protect himself.”
She walked out.
But while Eric lost the company, Lorraine filed an emergency petition seeking control of the twins.
