Chapter 7 - The File Lorraine Stole
Lorraine’s custody petition described Allison as unstable, dangerous, and emotionally detached.
It included records from counseling sessions Allison attended after a military rescue mission.
The documents mentioned insomnia, survivor’s guilt, and hypervigilance.
They omitted every page showing she had completed treatment and remained fit for duty.
Colonel Hale read the petition in Allison’s hospital room.
“This is intentional distortion.”
“She turned treatment into evidence against me.”
“No. She turned your responsible decision to seek help into a weapon.”
Lorraine claimed Allison nearly dropped one twin during the foyer confrontation.
The phone recording disproved that.
But Dana submitted a written statement supporting Lorraine.
Only hours after abandoning Eric at the board meeting, Dana was still helping the custody plan.
“Why?” Allison asked.
Megan found the answer inside the Crowley acquisition agreement.
The twins possessed future shares in a family trust created by Allison’s father.
If Eric gained sole custody, he could petition to control those shares until the boys became adults.
Dana no longer needed Eric as company president.
She needed him as the legal guardian of the trust beneficiaries.
Allison looked toward the bassinets.
“They were three days old.”
“To them,” Hale said, “the twins were assets.”
Allison’s attorney filed an emergency response.
Hospital records documented her injury.
Paramedics submitted statements.
The phone recording proved premeditation.
But Dana’s affidavit claimed Allison threatened self-harm when Eric announced the divorce.
It was a complete lie.
Eric had repeated similar accusations throughout the marriage.
Allison realized he had been constructing this narrative for years.
Her attorney asked whether anyone had observed unusual behavior at the house.
Allison contacted Maria Evans, the neighbor across the street.
Maria hesitated.
Then she said, “I’ve been waiting for you to ask.”
Her doorbell camera had recorded Lorraine carrying boxes of Allison’s documents from the house three nights before delivery.
Eric followed with a locked case.
Dana arrived shortly afterward.
The microphone captured Lorraine saying:
“Once she comes home with the babies, she won’t have the strength to fight.”
Eric replied:
“She won’t need strength. She’ll sign.”
The custody petition began collapsing.
Then officers attempted to serve Eric with a protective order.
He had disappeared.
