Chapter 8 - Daniel’s Signature

Emily stared at Daniel’s signature for nearly an hour.
It looked real.
The slant.
The D.
The sharp end of the r.
She knew his handwriting.
Rachel finally whispered:
“Maybe Mom wasn’t lying about everything.”
Emily looked at her.
“Daniel spent months investigating Sophie.”
“Maybe he changed his mind later.”
That possibility hurt.
Marcus refused to guess.
“We authenticate it.”
A forensic document examiner compared the consent form against dozens of verified Daniel signatures.
The result arrived two days later.
The signature itself was genuine.
Emily’s heart sank.
Then the examiner added:
“But it was transferred.”
Emily looked up.
“What?”
The original ink did not exist on the consent page.
Daniel had signed a different document.
His signature had been digitally reproduced onto the placement form.
The consent was forged.
Emily closed her eyes.
Relief came with rage.
Margaret had used a dead man’s real signature to rewrite his role.
Marcus found the source.
A board resolution Daniel had signed months earlier.
The exact image matched.
Rachel whispered:
“Mom did this?”
Marcus answered carefully.
“Someone with access to Parker legal files did.”
Then they found an email from Victor Hale to Margaret.
D.P. signature resolved. Placement paperwork complete.
Margaret had known.
Emily called her immediately.
Rachel tried to stop her.
Emily didn’t care.
Margaret answered.
“You forged Daniel’s signature.”
Silence.
“You told me he agreed.”
“I told you what you needed to hear.”
Emily’s entire body went cold.
“You stole my daughter.”
“I protected this family.”
“From a baby?”
“From chaos.”
“You mean from losing control of the company.”
Margaret laughed bitterly.
“You think this is about money?”
“Twenty-eight million dollars looks a lot like money.”
“You know nothing about what your grandfather built.”
“He built a trust for my child.”
“He built a bomb.”
Emily frowned.
Margaret continued.
“Your grandfather hated Rachel’s father.”
Emily froze.
Rachel was standing beside her.
“What?”
Margaret immediately stopped.
Emily turned on speaker.
“Say that again.”
Rachel’s face went white.
Margaret realized her mistake.
Robert Parker was supposed to be father to both Emily and Rachel.
Rachel whispered:
“Mom?”
Margaret disconnected.
Neither sister moved.
Emily stared at Rachel.
Rachel looked terrified.
“What did she mean?”
Emily didn’t know.
For years, the family story had been simple.
Robert and Margaret.
Two daughters.
Rachel first.
Emily three years later.
But Grandfather Parker’s trust had strangely favored Emily’s future child over Rachel’s.
Maybe the reason had never been favoritism.
Marcus began pulling old records.
Birth certificates.
Marriage dates.
Employment histories.
Then he found a private acknowledgment document buried in Robert Parker’s estate index.
Signed eleven years before Rachel was born.
A name appeared:
Thomas Reynolds.
Rachel stared.
“That was Mom’s college boyfriend.”
Emily looked at her sister.
Rachel whispered:
“No.”
The fight had suddenly become bigger than Sophie.
May you like
The Parker family had another hidden paternity secret.
And Margaret had just exposed it herself.
