Chapter 11 - The Truth About the Tea

After Nora's outburst, her defense changed.

She claimed Emily's death had been accidental.

She admitted giving her medication.

But insisted she only meant to make Emily weak.

The prosecutor destroyed that argument with her own recordings.

Repeated doses.

Calculated timing.

Comments about Emily's heart.

Nora knew exactly what she was risking.

Then came Daniel's poisoning.

The defense tried another angle.

Nora claimed the tea had been intended to make Daniel sick, not kill him.

Again, the evidence contradicted her.

The amount in the cup was dangerously high.

The earlier dose in his orange juice had already been significant.

The second dose could have pushed his heart into a fatal rhythm.

The prosecutor asked:

"Why two doses?"

Nora refused to answer.

Then they showed her search history from that morning.

**How long until cardiac medication overdose causes collapse**

**Can second dose be detected**

**Death certificate arrhythmia no autopsy**

Daniel stared at the screen.

Nora had expected another unexplained heart event.

Just like Emily.

No dramatic murder scene.

No weapon.

No blood.

Only a grieving family being told someone's heart had failed.

The prosecutor returned to the tea.

"Why was the cup necessary if Daniel had already taken the drug?"

Nora looked down.

Because the first dose wasn't acting fast enough.

That was the answer.

Lily knocking over the cup had not merely stopped a poisoning.

She had interrupted Nora's attempt to ensure Daniel didn't survive long enough to tell anyone what he suspected.

Then forensic analysts revealed something else.

A tiny camera had been installed inside the dining room clock.

Nora had been recording the meal.

Daniel frowned.

"Why?"

Mills explained later.

"If you collapsed after drinking tea while alone with Nora, she could edit the footage."

"Edit it into what?"

"Daniel taking medication himself. Or appearing confused. Maybe accidental overdose."

Daniel felt sick.

Nora had planned not only his death—

but the story afterward.

Then the recovered raw footage played.

It showed Nora entering the dining room before Daniel.

Taking a crushed tablet from her pocket.

Stirring it into the teapot.

Checking the doorway.

Then smiling when Daniel entered.

The jury watched in complete silence.

Nora's face collapsed.

There was no explanation left.

No misunderstanding.

No accidental contamination.

No lie big enough.

And then Lily appeared in the footage.

Small.

Barely steady on her feet.

Watching Nora from the doorway.

That was why Lily knew.

She had seen Nora make the tea.

Daniel covered his mouth.

His daughter had understood danger before he did.
