Chapter 2

PART 2:
Iris turned toward Julian with tears still on her face.
But her eyes were different now.
Not afraid.
Not empty.
Alive.
The court clerk stood quickly to call security.
And for the first time in five years, Julian Cross was not the most powerful person in the room.
Six years earlier, Iris had believed Julian was her second chance.
She had built the company before she ever met him.
A small architectural design firm at first.
Three employees.
One rented office.
One old coffee machine that broke every Monday.
Iris worked late nights, answered clients herself, and slept on the office couch more than once.
By thirty-two, she had turned that company into something real.
Crossline Development.
Luxury restorations.
Historic buildings.
Commercial spaces.
Homes that looked beautiful but still felt human.
Then Julian entered her life.
He was charming in the exact way lonely people mistake for safety.
He listened carefully.
He remembered small things.
He brought coffee to the office and praised her work in front of clients.
He told her, “You shouldn’t have to carry all this alone.”
At first, Iris thought he meant love.
Later, she understood he meant ownership.
Julian joined the company as a consultant.
Then partner.
Then husband.
He was good with investors.
Good with cameras.
Good with making people believe every success had his fingerprints on it.
Iris designed.
Julian took meetings.
Iris solved problems.
Julian gave interviews.
Slowly, the public stopped saying her company.
They started saying their company.
May you like
Then his company.
👉 But Julian didn’t steal Iris’s life all at once — he took it piece by piece while smiling in public…
