Chapter 8

PART 8:

Iris testified for two hours.

She did not dramatize.

She did not scream.

She simply told the truth.

The first time he hurt her.

The night he forced her to sign away her shares.

The way he trained the world to doubt her before she ever asked for help.

When the prosecutor showed the jury the timeline, it was impossible to ignore.

Every major transfer followed an assault.

Every public statement about her mental health followed a threat.

Every move Julian called “business” was tied to control.

The jury convicted him.

The judge sentenced him to prison and ordered restitution.

The divorce court later restored Iris’s ownership interest in Crossline Development, invalidated the coerced transfers, and awarded her the house Julian had tried to steal.

But Iris did not move back into that house.

She sold it.

Not because Julian had won.

Because she refused to live inside walls that remembered him.

She returned to the company slowly.

At first, employees did not know how to look at her.

Some had believed Julian.

Some had repeated his lies.

Some had stayed silent because keeping their jobs felt safer than questioning the man in charge.

Iris did not forgive everyone.

But she did rebuild.

She renamed the company Hale & Iris Design, using her mother’s maiden name.

The first project she approved after returning was not a luxury building.

It was a safe housing center for women leaving violent homes.

No press conference.

No speech.
