Chapter 7

PART 7:
Julian tried to laugh.
It came out thin.
“This is absurd.”
The courtroom doors opened.
Two courthouse officers stepped in.
The clerk stood near the judge’s bench, pale but steady.
The judge looked at the officers.
“Mr. Cross is not to leave with any documents or electronic devices. If he refuses, detain him.”
Julian reached for his briefcase.
An officer moved first.
“Sir, step away from the table.”
Julian’s mask cracked completely.
He turned on Iris.
“You think you won?” he hissed.
Iris looked at him.
For years, that voice had controlled her breathing.
Now it sounded small.
“No,” she said. “I think you finally spoke in a room where I wasn’t alone.”
That was when the mistress began crying.
Not for Iris.
For herself.
She whispered to Julian, “You said there were no recordings.”
Every person close enough heard it.
Rebecca’s eyes sharpened.
The judge leaned forward.
Julian turned slowly toward his mistress.
His face showed pure hatred.
And just like that, the woman who had smiled at Iris’s ruin realized she had been standing beside a man who would sacrifice anyone.
Even her.
Three weeks later, the divorce case became a criminal investigation.
Three months later, Julian was charged with domestic assault, coercion, fraud, evidence tampering, financial abuse, and perjury.
His mistress cut a deal and testified about the shell companies.
She admitted Julian had planned to leave Iris with nothing.
She admitted he joked about making Iris “too broken to fight back.”
The courtroom heard those words during trial.

This time, Julian did not smile.
👉 But when Iris finally took the stand, she didn’t need rage — she only needed the truth…
