Chapter 4

PART 4:
The mistress arrived soon after.
Not openly.
Not at first.
She was introduced as a brand strategist.
Young.
Polished.
Always laughing at Julian’s jokes.
Iris saw the looks before she found the messages.
Hotel reservations.
Photos.
A text that made her hands go numb.
Once the divorce is final, she’ll have no company, no house, no money. Just scars and stories nobody can prove.
Iris stared at the screen for a long time.
Then she did something Julian never expected.
She stopped reacting.
No more arguments.
No more begging.
No more asking him why.
She started documenting.
Every medical report.
Every emergency room visit Julian had explained away as “falls.”
Every photo of every bruise.
Every threatening voicemail.
Every email where he called her unstable right before board meetings.
Every document he had forced her to sign after violence.
She made copies.
Then copies of copies.
She mailed one envelope to an attorney.
Another to a former CFO Julian had pushed out of the company.
Another to a bank safety deposit box under her maiden name.
When Julian finally filed for divorce, he looked almost happy.
He moved his mistress into a downtown condo.
He froze Iris’s credit cards.
He changed the locks on the lake house.
Then he gave an interview outside a fundraiser and said, with a sad smile, “I just hope Iris gets the help she needs.”
That line appeared in three gossip blogs by morning.
Iris read it from a motel room.
And she did not cry.
Not then.

She saved the screenshot.
👉 Because Iris knew the day would come when Julian’s lies would have to face her evidence…
