Chapter 15 - THE SECOND TRASH BAG

Police finished processing the waste container.

Most bags held ordinary refuse.

One contained shredded paper.

Another held damaged electronics.

The third contained something nobody expected.

Isabella’s missing baby monitor.

A small Wi-Fi camera I had installed in her bedroom when she was born.

I thought we stopped using it a year earlier.

Beatriz had not.

The device memory contained clips.

Not from Isabella’s bedroom.

From the cellar.

Beatriz had moved the camera.

She recorded Isabella there.

Why?

At first, I assumed cruelty.

Then investigators reviewed the clips.

Beatriz repeatedly entered the cellar holding her phone.

She asked Isabella questions.

“Did Daddy leave you alone?”

“No.”

“Say yes.”

“No.”

“Did Daddy shout at you?”

“No.”

“Say Daddy angry.”

Isabella began crying.

Another clip.

Beatriz:

“Who makes you sad?”

Isabella:

“Beatriz.”

The recording stopped immediately.

My hands shook.

She had been trying to manufacture statements.

Not only make Isabella look unreliable.

Create recordings she could use against me.

Then came a clip that broke me.

Isabella sat on the mattress holding her stuffed rabbit.

Beatriz stood near the door.

“Daddy doesn’t come because Daddy works.”

“Daddy come.”

“No.”

“Daddy love.”

Beatriz paused.

Then:

“If Daddy loved you, he’d be here.”

I left the viewing room.

I could not watch more.

Sofia followed.

“You need to stop punishing yourself.”

“I made the sentence believable.”

“What sentence?”

“If Daddy loved you, he’d be here.”

She grabbed my arm.

“You were working.”

“I was always working.”

“And now?”

I looked through the glass at the evidence room.

“Now I’m here.”

“Then stay.”

The baby monitor became powerful evidence of emotional coercion.

But prosecutors warned us again:

Not every cruel statement was a separate crime.

The physical confinement, documented injuries, and coercive conduct would be evaluated under applicable law.

No need to inflate.

The truth stood.

Then the damaged electronics from the second bag produced another reward.

The USB drive could not be fully recovered.

But its file directory survived.

Names:

VEGA_SIGNATURES.

ELENA_TRUST.

PALM_BEACH.

ISABELLA_VIDEO.

MAR_AZUL.

One folder:

ADRIAN_INCIDENTS.

Beatriz had been collecting material about me systematically.

Then investigators found a duplicate backup on Ethan’s server.

ADRIAN_INCIDENTS contained:

business-trip calendars,

photos of wine,

angry texts,

the garbage-bag video,

a clip of me yelling during a work call,

and a note:

Use only if he refuses settlement.

This was not documentation for safety.

It was leverage.

Then one file changed the relationship map.

An audio recording between Beatriz and Ethan.

Ethan:

You said this was about saving Mar Azul.

Beatriz:

It was.

“Was?”

Pause.

“Now it’s about making sure Adrian never gets to decide what happens to me again.”

Money started the scheme.

Control had taken over.

📖 The second trash bag exposed Beatriz’s attempt to manufacture statements from Isabella, while her own recording revealed the scheme had evolved from financial rescue into personal control. 👇
