Chapter 5 - THE VIDEOS SHE SENT ME

I watched every video Beatriz had sent during my last three business trips.

Thirty-two clips.

Isabella eating.

Isabella coloring.

Isabella dancing.

Isabella sleeping.

At first, I saw a happy child.

Then I looked at details.

Same fruit bowl.

Same flowers.

Same shirt on a housekeeper in the background.

Same weather pattern outside.

Twenty-one videos had been recorded during only four days.

Beatriz built a library.

Then sent clips as though they were current.

I had replied to every one.

My princess looks happy.

Thank you for taking care of her.

Tell her Daddy loves her.

Each message became proof of how completely I had outsourced seeing my own child.

Sofia sat beside me.

“You didn’t know.”

“I didn’t check.”

“That isn’t the same.”

“To Isabella?”

She did not answer.

Good.

I did not need absolution.

I needed accuracy.

Then our former nanny, Emma Collins, contacted Grace.

Beatriz had fired her six weeks earlier.

I knew that.

Beatriz said Emma stole jewelry.

I believed her.

Emma denied it.

She had tried to contact me twice after being fired.

I never saw the messages.

The family inbox had automatically moved them to spam.

Rule created by:

Beatriz Vega.

Emma joined us by secure call.

She began crying the moment she saw Isabella sleeping nearby.

“I tried to tell you.”

“What happened?”

“Beatriz started giving Isabella chores.”

“What kind?”

“Picking up laundry. Carrying bottles. Bringing things from the garden.”

“That’s not what I saw.”

Emma looked down.

“It got worse.”

“How?”

“When Isabella cried for Elena, Beatriz became angry.”

My throat tightened.

“She said you were encouraging it?”

“Yes.”

Emma said Beatriz removed photographs of Elena from Isabella’s room.

Then took away meals when Isabella refused to stop asking for them.

Emma intervened.

Three days later, a bracelet disappeared.

Beatriz accused her.

Police were never called.

Beatriz paid severance and forced Emma to sign a confidentiality agreement.

I had approved the payment electronically.

Or thought I had.

Grace checked.

My signature was genuine that time.

I remembered signing a document labeled STAFF SETTLEMENT.

I never opened the attachment.

That was on me.

Then Emma said something worse.

“She started locking Isabella downstairs after I left.”

“How do you know?”

“A housekeeper sent me a picture.”

She forwarded it.

The cellar mattress.

Same rabbit.

Timestamp:

four weeks earlier.

That meant the confinement had begun almost immediately after Emma disappeared.

“Who sent this?”

Emma hesitated.

“Lucia.”

Our junior housekeeper.

Still employed.

Grace asked whether we should contact her.

I said no.

Not directly.

We would let authorities approach her properly.

I was learning.

Then Emma added:

“Beatriz kept saying she needed Isabella to become ‘manageable’ before the trust changed.”

I stared at her.

“Trust?”

Emma nodded.

“I didn’t know what she meant.”

The abuse and the money were no longer parallel stories.

Beatriz had spoken about them in the same breath.

📖 The staged videos proved Beatriz manufactured a false picture of home, while the fired nanny connected Isabella’s punishment directly to the trust change. 👇
