Chapter 20 - THE CELLAR SERVER

The camera in the cellar had not operated alone.

It connected to a small local storage box hidden behind the laundry shelving.

Investigators found it during a second technical search.

A black network recorder.

No cloud account.

No obvious remote backup.

Beatriz probably believed deleting clips from the baby monitor app would be enough.

The local recorder retained thirty days.

The footage was difficult to watch.

Isabella entering the cellar.

Sometimes walking.

Sometimes being carried.

Beatriz closing the door.

Bolt sliding.

Hours passing.

No dramatic violence in most clips.

That almost made them worse.

A two-year-old sitting alone.

Holding a rabbit.

Sleeping.

Calling for me.

Then one recording showed Lucia bringing food.

She looked toward the camera.

Left the door open.

Beatriz arrived five minutes later.

They argued without sound.

Beatriz shut the door again.

That corroborated Lucia.

Another recording showed Beatriz carrying Elena’s red folder downstairs.

She placed it on a shelf.

Later, she returned with Ethan Monroe.

That surprised us.

Ethan had claimed he never entered the cellar.

The video proved otherwise.

They spread documents on a small folding table outside camera view.

No sound.

Then Beatriz handed Ethan my tablet.

Ethan’s role grew.

He did not just advise remotely.

He was physically present inside the hidden room used to confine Isabella.

Did he know Isabella was locked there?

One clip answered.

He entered while she slept on the mattress.

Looked directly at her.

Then continued discussing papers.

He knew.

His attorney requested another proffer.

Self-preservation again.

Ethan admitted he saw Isabella there once.

Beatriz told him the child had fallen asleep while playing.

“What about the outside bolt?”

“I didn’t notice.”

The video showed him slide it shut when they left.

He noticed enough.

Then the local recorder captured sound from one newer microphone we had not known existed.

A twelve-minute segment.

Ethan:

“This is getting out of control.”

Beatriz:

“Then finish the amendment.”

“You cannot keep using Adrian’s accounts.”

“He won’t check.”

“And the child?”

“She needs to stop touching things.”

“She’s two.”

“I know how old she is.”

Then silence.

Ethan:

“If Adrian sees her hands, he’s done.”

My stomach turned.

Beatriz:

“He’s gone until Tuesday.”

I came home Saturday.

Four days early.

That was why the garden scene existed.

She believed she had time for Isabella’s hands to heal.

The garbage punishment was temporary in her plan.

A few days.

Then cleaned child.

Fresh dress.

New prerecorded video.

I nearly vomited.

The cruelty depended on my predictable absence.

Then Ethan said:

“Emma was right about you.”

Beatriz:

“Emma is gone.”

There it was.

The cellar server did not merely confirm confinement.

It connected Beatriz, Ethan, Emma, the trust papers, and the assumption that I would not come home.

For the first time, the entire scheme existed in one continuous timeline.

📖 The cellar server tied Ethan directly to Isabella’s confinement and proved Beatriz expected her injuries to heal before I returned, making my early arrival the accident that broke her plan. 👇
