Chapter 8 - EMMA’S BIRTH RECORD

Independent DNA testing showed I was Emma’s biological mother.
The hospital record was false.
But it concealed another crime.
During my delivery, Dr. Vale had collected embryos without consent and mislabeled them under Laura’s name.
One embryo created from my egg and Daniel’s sperm had been implanted into another carrier three years later.
A child named Grace Vale.
Age two.
Current location unknown.
Emma had a genetic sister born to another woman.
The carrier, Megan Cole, had entered a Mitchell shelter after losing her home. She signed what she believed was a temporary housing agreement.
The hidden pages authorized fertility procedures.
Grace was removed after birth and transferred into a trust.
Federal agents traced her to Olivia’s private estate in Vermont.
The house was empty.
A nanny had fled with Grace after seeing Olivia’s arrest.
She contacted authorities voluntarily.
Grace entered protected care.
Megan was found alive in a state psychiatric hospital.
Dr. Vale had declared her delusional when she reported the stolen baby.
The pattern repeated so exactly that investigators uncovered eleven more cases.
The court created independent representation for every child and mother.
No mass reunion.
No automatic biological custody.
Each relationship required safety, truth, and time.
I met Megan once.
She asked whether I wanted Grace.
“I want her protected.”
“She came from your egg.”
“She came through your body.”
Megan began crying.
No one had acknowledged both truths.
The family system depended on women competing for children as property.
We refused.
Grace remained with a therapeutic foster family while Megan began recovery. I became a known biological connection, not immediate mother.
Emma received age-appropriate information only when necessary.
She did not need adult reproductive crimes poured into her childhood.
Then Laura Bennett revealed another secret.
Emily was not Daniel’s biological daughter.
Michael was the father.
During the period when Michael impersonated Daniel, Laura conceived.
Olivia knew and used the uncertainty to control both brothers.
Michael wanted contact with Emily.
The court denied it pending extensive evaluation.
Biology did not outrank safety.
Daniel was devastated, then ashamed of being devastated.
He had loved Emily from a distance only after learning she existed.
His grief was tied partly to possession.
Therapy forced him to confront that.
The criminal trial continued.
The dinner footage became central evidence.
Olivia’s attorney argued family discipline was being misrepresented.
The prosecutor played Emma’s question:
“Mommy... can I come inside now?”
No legal argument could make that sound normal.
Then my mother found a hidden file inside Richard’s accounts.
SARAH MITCHELL SUCCESSION.
It listed my death date.
Three months after the dinner.
Cause: private plane accident.
A replacement executive had already been trained to assume my identity long enough to authorize the final asset transfers.
Her name was Rebecca Sloan.
May you like
My attorney.
Or a woman prepared to look like her.
