Chapter 1 - The Hospital Room Where My Marriage Died

The first thing I heard was my hospital bag hitting the floor.
Then came the sound of tiny baby clothes scattering across the cold hospital tiles.
I looked down at them.
The little blankets.
The newborn outfits.
The things I had carefully packed before giving birth.
Then I looked up.
Jason stood at the end of my hospital bed.
My husband.
The man who was supposed to protect me.
Instead, he stood beside another woman.
She wore an elegant cream dress and a diamond ring that caught the daylight coming through the hospital window.
She looked at me like I was already replaced.
Jason didn’t even look at our newborn baby.
“You’re dead weight, Emily—and even that baby couldn’t make you worth keeping.”
For a moment, I couldn’t breathe.
Not because of the words.
Because of how easily he said them.
I was still recovering.
My body was exhausted.
My arms were wrapped around our newborn daughter.
And the man who promised me forever was standing there celebrating my pain.
The female officer near my bed stepped forward.
Not aggressively.
Protectively.
Jason noticed.
His expression hardened.
The mistress smiled.
“He finally chose a woman who won’t embarrass him.”
I looked down at my baby.
My daughter was sleeping peacefully.
She had no idea her father had just destroyed the world I thought we were building.
A tear slipped down my cheek.
Then stopped.
Something inside me changed.
I lifted my eyes toward Jason.
“You still don’t know what you just walked away from.”
He laughed.
A cruel, confident laugh.
“You?”
He stepped closer.
“You’re nobody without me.”
The female officer immediately blocked him.
Jason stopped.
Not because he was afraid of her.
Because he wasn’t used to anyone standing between him and what he wanted.
Then the hospital door opened.
The room changed instantly.
A three-star general entered.
Silver hair.
Dark Army dress uniform.
Three stars shining on his shoulders.
The female officer snapped to attention.
Jason turned.
His confidence disappeared.
The general walked past him without saying a word.
He stopped beside my bed.
Looked at me.
Then slowly raised his hand in a formal salute.
The camera stayed behind him.
Nobody saw exactly who he was saluting.
Jason stared.
The mistress lowered her ring.
The smile vanished.
The general placed a sealed military envelope beside me.
Then looked directly at Jason.
May you like
“You abandoned her without ever asking who she really was.”
📖 Chapter 2 reveals why Jason never knew Emily’s true identity and why the general entered the hospital room personally. 👇
