Chapter 11 - The Prison Escape

My heart pounded violently against my aching chest ribs.

"Mom! Lorraine escaped from the federal transport van!"

Margaret stood up fast, pulling her licensed sidearm out.

She checked the magazine clip with swift tactical speed.

"Lock all the doors and windows right now, Emily!"

I ran through the house, securing heavy deadbolt locks.

Thick steel security shutters lowered over every window frame.

Sirens wailed in the distance, echoing through town streets.

Police cruisers were searching the surrounding neighborhood roads fast.

A floorboard creaked softly on the front porch outside.

Slow, heavy, deliberate footsteps approached our oak door.

My breath hitched in my throat as panic surged.

Whoever was outside held a master digital keycard device.

The electronic deadbolt lock chimed with a soft beep.

The keycard reader flashed green on the door frame.

The heavy oak front door swung open slowly inside.

A tall woman stepped into the dimly lit hallway.

It was Lorraine Carter, wearing a dark leather coat.

She held a suppressed handgun trained directly on us.

A cold, terrifying, wicked smile spread across her face.
