Chapter 1 - The Baby Shower That Turned Into An Arrest

The moment I hit the marble floor beside the shattered baby gifts, I knew my marriage was over.
I wrapped both arms around my eight-month pregnant belly, trying to protect my unborn child while broken glass and torn ribbons surrounded me.
The ballroom that was supposed to celebrate my baby had become a stage for my humiliation.
Julian Vance stood above me in his navy suit, adjusting his cufflinks like nothing had happened.
Beside him stood Chloe.
Twenty-two years old.
Wearing an elegant cream dress.
Smiling.
That smile hurt more than the pain in my lip.
“Julian…”
My voice trembled.
Not because I was weak.
Because I was trying to understand how the man I loved could stand there while I was bleeding.
“How could you?”
The guests watched in silence.
Some looked away.
Others stared.
Nobody knew what to do when a billionaire destroyed his own wife in public.
Julian looked down at me.
Cold.
Distant.
Like I was someone he had already erased.
Then he pointed toward Chloe.
“She’s carrying my real heir.”
The words hit harder than the fall.
My hand moved instinctively over my stomach.
My baby.
Our baby.
The child he once held in the ultrasound room and promised to protect.
Now he was replacing us in front of everyone.
Behind him, his parents stood.
Arthur Vance in his black tuxedo.
Beatrice Vance in her champagne gown.
Instead of defending me, they applauded.
Slowly.
Cruelly.
Arthur smiled.
“You’ve always been too dramatic, Clara.”
The room blurred.
But I didn’t cry.
I didn’t scream.
Because something inside me had already changed.
For months, Julian thought he controlled every part of my life.
My money.
My reputation.
My future.
He thought pushing me down in front of everyone would make me disappear.
He was wrong.
I slowly lifted my damaged wrist.
My cracked watch was still running.
The time was still visible.
I looked at Julian.
And smiled.
“Look at the time.”
His expression changed.
Just slightly.
Because he knew that watch mattered.
He knew what happened at that exact hour.
Before he could speak, the ballroom doors exploded open.
Two FBI agents rushed inside.
“Federal agents! Nobody move!”
The music stopped.
The guests froze.
Julian’s confidence disappeared instantly.
Chloe stepped backward.
Arthur stopped smiling.
And I carefully pushed myself up from the floor, one hand protecting my baby, the other holding the evidence Julian never knew I kept.
I looked directly at my husband.
May you like
“You chose the wrong wife.”
