Chapter 12 - THE OTHER CLARA
Her name was Claire Dawson.
Same age.
Similar face altered through surgery and styling.
She had been raised inside the fertility network as a legal substitute.
When signatures or appearances were needed, Claire became Clara.
She had signed the embryo transfers.
The records showed “Clara’s consent” because Claire’s face appeared on camera.
Claire believed the children were partly hers because she had carried the legal identity during their creation.
She entered Owen’s floor to say goodbye before surrendering.
She did not try to take him.
She wanted the truth preserved before Charles erased her.
Claire handed Clara a flash drive.
Inside was video of Julian authorizing the first secret transfer.
He knew Clara had not consented.
He laughed and said:
“She’ll thank me when she sees the baby.”
That sentence destroyed his last defense.
Then Claire revealed the final live birth.
A newborn girl delivered that morning.
