Chapter 2 - The Apartment They Wanted To Take

Daniel stared at my phone.

He didn’t see a threat.

He saw the end of control.

“You’re recording me?”

His voice became quieter.

More dangerous.

I held the phone close.

“Yes.”

Lorraine placed her glass down.

“You really think a recording changes anything?”

I looked at her.

“Yes.”

Because people like Lorraine depended on one thing.

Silence.

They needed victims to doubt themselves.

They needed embarrassment.

They needed fear.

The apartment was the only thing my father left me.

Not a mansion.

Not a fortune.

A small place that represented independence.

Daniel hated that.

He believed everything I owned should belong to his family.

The folder beside him contained the transfer papers.

I had refused to sign.

That refusal turned into months of pressure.

Then tonight became violence.

Daniel grabbed the folder.

“You don’t understand what you’re doing.”

I laughed softly.

“No. I understand exactly.”

Then my phone buzzed.

A notification.

The recording had uploaded automatically.

Daniel saw it.

His confidence disappeared.

Because he realized destroying my phone wouldn’t erase the evidence.

Lorraine stood.

“Daniel.”

A warning.

But he ignored her.

He grabbed the folder.

Then stopped.

Because the hallway light turned on.
