Chapter 2 - THE OTHER WIFE

The woman introduced herself as Claire Bennett.
Up close, the differences were visible. Her eyes were darker. Her smile appeared on one side first. She wore my perfume too heavily.
Grant denied knowing her.
Claire laughed. “You called me Rachel for six months.”
Judith tried to leave, but the attorneys blocked the stairs.
Claire explained that Judith had hired her through a private image-consulting firm. At first, Claire attended charity events when I traveled. Then dinners. Then company meetings. Finally, Grant’s bed.
Grant claimed he believed she was me during their first encounter. Messages proved he knew after the second.
Claire had signed financial documents under my name and recorded videos designed to portray me as unstable, intoxicated, and careless.
If Grant filed for divorce, the false Rachel would become evidence.
A trust transfer was scheduled for midnight. If I were declared mentally incapacitated, Grant would gain temporary voting control of Monroe Energy.
The slap and eviction were meant to provoke a breakdown.
Claire was supposed to appear downstairs calm, elegant, and cooperative.
Then Harrison found a hidden file inside the safe:
CLAIRE BENNETT — TERMINATION AFTER TRANSFER.
