Chapter 3 - THE ASHFORD METHOD

The image-consulting firm was a front called Ashford Continuity.
My father had helped create it years earlier to protect public heirs from kidnapping and impersonation. Doubles first attended distant events. Later, wealthy families used them for fraud, inheritance disputes, and custody cases.
My father tried to shut it down before he died.
Claire entered the program at twenty-two after losing her parents. She was trained on my voice, habits, signatures, and marriage history.
Then the safe produced a ledger showing that Judith’s payments came from an account controlled by my mother, Evelyn Ashford.
My mother had been dead for nineteen years.
Or so I believed.
The televisions turned on by themselves. An older woman with my eyes appeared.
