Chapter 10 - THE MEMORY THEY TOOK

A recovered journal proved I discovered Lily two years earlier.

I found a Walker trust statement inside Caleb’s office and hired Rebecca Sloan quietly.

We planned to expose the family.

Then I disappeared for three days.

Caleb told everyone I attended a wellness retreat.

In reality, Michael took me to Walker Hospital.

Dr. Samuel Vale administered memory-suppression drugs.

The rib implant was inserted.

I returned home believing the investigation had been a nightmare.

Rebecca Sloan disappeared from my contacts because Caleb forged a message ending our representation.

Rebecca had continued gathering evidence without contacting me directly.

She sent the white envelope beneath the hospital door.

The photographs came from her investigator, not Nathan.

Nathan only claimed credit.

Another man attaching himself to a woman’s resistance.

Rebecca admitted she used my assault moment to activate cameras and federal response.

She expected Caleb to threaten me.

She did not expect the abdominal blows.

Her plan involved risk I had previously authorized before memory loss—but only under conditions that no longer existed.

Consent did not survive erased memory automatically.

She accepted professional review.

No ally remained above scrutiny.

Then my old journal described Lily.

I had seen her once through a school fence.

She looked at me and smiled without knowing why.

That memory returned slowly.

The grief felt real and unfamiliar at the same time.

The federal trial opened.

Caleb, Nathan, Eleanor, Victor, Thomas Vale, Samuel Vale, and hospital administrators faced charges.

Michael remained free.

William testified through eye tracking.

Anna, Laura, Sarah, and I testified with medical records and videos.

The defense attacked memory.

The prosecution relied on cameras, implants, contracts, and financial trails.

I said, “I do not need every memory to prove what he did on the bed.”

The jury watched Caleb hit me.

Then listened to the Stage Three plan.

The evidence held.

Then Michael sent a live video.

He stood inside the school with Lily and Emily.

The girls appeared unharmed.

He said he was rescuing them from federal control.

He demanded the client archive and Eleanor’s release.

The family kept calling abduction rescue.

This time, the children had microphones.

Lily whispered, “We don’t want to go with him.”

Their choice became part of the operation.
