Chapter 6 - THE FIRST WIFE

Her name was Anna Walker.
She had married Caleb twelve years earlier.
When she discovered the replacement program, Eleanor declared her unstable and moved her into the same rural system later used for Sarah.
Anna gave birth to a girl inside captivity.
The child was removed.
Caleb told Anna the baby died.
Eleanor told Caleb Anna died.
Both lived.
The child, Emily Walker, was raised at a private boarding school as Eleanor’s ward.
She was eleven.
Caleb had a daughter he had never searched for because accepting his mother’s story was easier.
His passivity before becoming an abuser mattered.
The program had shaped him.
He still chose violence.
Federal agents recovered Anna from another hidden clinic.
Her legs carried old surgical scars from unnecessary fractures.
The Walker family used immobilization repeatedly.
Cast both legs.
Control movement.
Claim dependence.
Transfer authority.
My injuries were not only punishment.
They were a family signature.
Anna met me through video.
She said, “Did he hit your stomach?”
“Yes.”
“He did that when I said I was leaving.”
Same words.
Same body target.
Same belief that refusal did not exist.
Anna agreed to testify.
Emily entered child protection and received truth gradually.
No forced reunion with Caleb.
Then Eleanor’s attorneys argued the program saved women from dangerous public exposure.
The federal prosecutor displayed photographs of broken bones, sedative reservoirs, and false identities.
Protection did not require this.
Control did.
Nathan provided the account codes for Walker Medical Holdings.
Caleb provided nothing.
Michael remained missing.
Then the hospital monitoring system detected a signal from my discarded casts.
The devices had activated again.
Someone believed I still wore them.
The signal led to a warehouse.
Inside, Michael sat beside two empty hospital beds.
He had prepared new casts.
One labeled ANNA.
One labeled REBECCA.
He planned to retrieve both surviving wives.
Agents surrounded the building.
Michael escaped through a tunnel.
He left a message:
THE WRONG BROTHER IS IN CUSTODY.
DNA could not separate Caleb and Nathan.
Scars could be duplicated.
The men might have switched after arrest.
The person we called Caleb could be Nathan.
The person called Nathan could be Caleb.
My testimony depended on identifying the man who assaulted me.
May you like
The family had reached its strongest weapon again.
Doubt.
