Chapter 3 - THE HOSPITAL INSIDE THE PLAN

The hospital administrator, Thomas Vale, denied knowing anything about the death announcement.

The file metadata showed his login created it.

Vale claimed his account had been copied.

Dr. Reed did not believe him.

Neither did Hayes.

The private hospital belonged partly to Walker Medical Holdings, a company controlled by Caleb’s mother, Eleanor Walker.

Eleanor had not visited me after the crash.

She sent flowers.

White lilies.

The same flowers displayed at Caleb’s father’s funeral, Nathan’s false funeral, and every Walker family memorial.

The hospital room was not neutral ground.

It was family property.

Hayes transferred me to a federal medical facility.

Before the ambulance left, a nurse discovered a hidden transmitter beneath my right cast.

It had been embedded in the plaster.

The device recorded location, movement, and sound.

Someone wanted to know whether I tried to walk, call for help, or discuss the crash.

The left cast contained something worse.

A thin drug reservoir connected to my skin through a tiny needle.

It delivered sedatives whenever the remote signal activated.

That explained the memory gaps.

Caleb could make me confused on command.

Nathan claimed he never knew about the devices.

His phone contained the product manual.

He said Caleb planted it.

The brothers had built their lives around interchangeable guilt.

Then Dr. Reed reviewed my original emergency scans.

The second leg injuries occurred after 2:00 a.m.

But the drug reservoir had been inserted before midnight.

Someone prepared control before deciding whether to break the bones again.

The plan contained stages.

Crash.

Hospital transfer.

Sedation.

Incapacity paperwork.

Optional death.

Rebecca Sloan found another document.

A court petition filed under seal two weeks before the crash.

It described me as emotionally unstable, suicidal, and at risk of fleeing.

The attached physician statement came from Dr. Samuel Vale, Thomas Vale’s brother.

I had never met him.

He had diagnosed me without examination.

The petition granted Caleb emergency authority over my medical decisions if I experienced a traumatic event.

The crash activated it.

My husband had legal permission to control treatment before I reached the hospital.

Then Detective Hayes found the black SUV.

It was abandoned near a private airfield.

Inside were my passport, clothes, and a new driver’s license.

Name: Rachel Cole.

Photograph: me.

The second car was meant to move me out of the hospital under another identity.

I was not supposed to remain Rebecca Walker.

I was supposed to become a patient no family would search for.

Then agents opened the SUV’s refrigerated compartment.

A body bag lay inside.

Empty.

A toe tag carried my real name.

They had prepared both identities.

May you like

Rachel Cole if I cooperated.

Rebecca Walker if I died.
