Chapter 2 - THE WOMAN IN WHITE

The video resumed under police supervision.

Daniel entered first.

Behind him came the woman wearing my wedding dress.

She lifted the veil.

My sister, Claire.

I had not invited her to the wedding.

She had disappeared three years earlier after accusing my family of stealing money from our grandmother’s trust.

Now she stood in my hospital room after surgery, carrying a small surgical pouch.

Daniel looked toward the camera.

Then disabled it.

The footage ended.

He admitted signing a temporary medical authorization because Linda said I was unconscious and needed a “family witness.”

He believed Claire was there to bring my belongings.

He did not know about the pouch.

The surgeon removed the object from my abdomen.

A small metal capsule.

Inside: a microSD card.

Someone had hidden evidence inside my body.

Not to kill me.

To transport something without being searched.

The police opened the card.

It contained wedding photographs, bank transfers, and a legal file tied to my late grandmother’s estate.

The file named me sole heir to fifty million dollars in hospital land.

Linda wanted the property sold.

Claire wanted the evidence exposed.

Daniel stood between them without understanding the full plan.

Then one folder appeared.

EMILY WHITMORE — MEDICAL INCAPACITY CLAUSE.

If I were declared permanently impaired after marriage, control of the estate transferred to Daniel.

If Daniel died, it transferred to Linda.

My emergency surgery had created the perfect opening.

The rupture might not have been natural.

Toxicology found traces of a drug known to mask abdominal pain.
