Chapter 4 - THE VOICES BESIDE MY BED

Memory returned in fragments.

A woman whispering.

Daniel crying.

Linda saying, “The marriage is legal now.”

Claire answering, “Then open the trust.”

My body had been still.

My mind trapped.

I remembered pressure near the incision.

Cold fingers.

A zipper opening.

The capsule being placed.

Then another voice.

My father.

He had been dead for seven years.

I remembered him saying:

“Emily must never know the hospital belongs to her.”

Security records showed a man using my father’s old hospital badge.

Same height.

Same face.

Either a relative, a disguise, or someone using archived credentials.

DNA from the bedside cup matched my father.

Impossible.

His body had been buried.

The grave was exhumed.

The coffin contained another man.

My father had staged his death.

The estate dispute was larger than Linda.

He had been alive, watching the wedding and the surgery.

Then Claire sent a second message.
