Chapter 9 - THE WAREHOUSE RECORDING
A hidden camera captured the confrontation.
Jason accused Margaret of abandoning him twice.
Once as an infant.
Again after Nathan’s murder became dangerous.
Margaret told him he had served his purpose.
He threatened to confess.
She shot him.
Then arranged the weapon to suggest a struggle.
The recording also captured her admission:
“I delayed Elena’s treatment.”
Not murder in the direct sense.
But deliberate medical neglect.
She chose inheritance over her sister’s life.
Police arrested her.
For the first time, Margaret could not rewrite the room.
Chelsea asked to see her.
Margaret refused.
She asked for Carter.
The court denied unsupervised contact.
Then Margaret requested me.
I went with Evelyn and an investigator.
She sat behind glass in county custody.
“You won,” she said.
“This is not a game.”
“You always wanted what Chelsea had.”
“I wanted you to stop hurting my son.”
“He is too sensitive.”
“He is four.”
“He’ll grow weak if you protect him.”
I understood then.
Margaret did not think she had been cruel.
She thought cruelty was preparation.
The family had taught her love was rank, food, money, and survival.
She repeated it.
Then she leaned toward the glass.
“Nathan left out one truth.”
“What?”
“Dany is not his son.”
My body went cold.
She smiled.
