Chapter 2 - The Cameras Went Dark
Ethan and Mia were taken inside immediately.
A private physician who had been attending the mansion event examined them.
Both children were overheated and dehydrated.
Neither needed hospitalization, but the doctor made one thing clear.
A little longer inside that SUV could have changed everything.
Silvio stood beside Ethan while the toddler drank slowly from a cup.
His hands were still shaking.
Not from fear.
From rage.
Downstairs, Grant and Lucinda had been separated.
No one was allowed to leave until police arrived.
Silvio’s security chief brought him the first report.
All four cameras covering the valet area had stopped transmitting eleven minutes before Ethan and Mia were placed inside the SUV.
The mansion cameras continued working normally.
Only the valet area had gone dark.
The jammer explained how.
But it did not explain why.
Then one of the attendants remembered something.
Lucinda had dismissed the valet staff shortly before the children disappeared.
She claimed Silvio wanted the entrance cleared for an important guest.
Silvio had issued no such instruction.
Grant had then moved the rolling kiosk six feet closer to the SUV.
That put the jammer almost directly beneath the cameras.
Everything had been planned.
Silvio ordered his security team to preserve all logs.
One camera had survived.
It wasn’t part of the mansion system.
A delivery van parked across the circular drive had a dash camera that continued recording.
Police obtained the footage.
It showed Lucinda walking toward the SUV while holding Ethan’s hand.
Mia followed.
Grant walked behind them.
Lucinda opened the rear door.
The children climbed inside.
Then Grant looked directly toward the mansion cameras.
Seconds later, their feeds disappeared.
Lucinda closed the SUV door.
Neither adult remained nearby.
They walked back toward the house.
The children had not accidentally locked themselves inside.
Grant and Lucinda had deliberately left them there.
But the footage revealed something stranger.
Before Lucinda closed the door, she placed something beneath the driver’s seat.
Police later recovered it.
A leather document folder.
Inside were copies of Silvio’s insurance records, medical authorization forms, and a handwritten timeline of his movements that afternoon.
Someone had been preparing a story.
