Chapter 14 - The Hospital Threat

St. Andrews locked down the pediatric floor.
Security checked every entrance.
Leonard’s photograph was distributed to staff.
Naomi moved Toby to a room without his name on the door.
Elijah refused to leave.
“You may be a target too,” Detective Price warned.
“Then I stay where he expects me.”
Naomi looked at him.
“That is not protection. That is pride.”
He stepped back.
“What do you need me to do?”
“Follow instructions.”
The answer humbled him more than anger would have.
Cassandra finally agreed to cooperate fully.
She revealed Leonard had rented an apartment near the hospital.
Police searched it.
They found medical uniforms, fake identification, sedatives, and a floor plan of St. Andrews.
A red circle marked Toby’s intensive-care room.
Leonard planned to enter disguised as a physician.
Security footage showed he had already been inside the hospital earlier that month.
He had watched Naomi’s routines.
He knew which stairwells lacked cameras.
At 7:42 a.m., a nurse reported seeing a man in surgical scrubs entering a restricted service elevator.
Naomi checked Toby’s room.
He was asleep.
Elijah sat beside him.
Then the overhead lights flickered.
The monitor screens briefly went black.
A backup alarm sounded.
Someone had disabled power to the pediatric wing.
In the darkness, a voice came through Toby’s room intercom.

“Naomi, step away from my son.”
Leonard was inside the hospital.
