Chapter 5 - The Executive Password

Elijah insisted someone had stolen his credentials.

The company’s security director joined by video call.

“The access request came from Mr. Sherman’s office computer.”

“Was I in the office?”

“We are checking.”

Cassandra sat behind the consultation-room window, speaking calmly with her attorney.

She appeared less frightened now.

The evidence was moving away from her.

Naomi studied Elijah.

“Where were you when the drug was removed?”

He checked the date.

“At a conference in Boston.”

“Can you prove it?”

“There were hundreds of people there.”

Detective Price nodded.

“That helps you. It does not explain your computer.”

Elijah suddenly remembered something.

“Cassandra used my office during the conference.”

Price looked through the glass.

Cassandra noticed.

Her posture changed slightly.

The company provided camera footage from the executive floor.

At 9:12 p.m., Cassandra entered Elijah’s office.

At 9:47, she left carrying a leather folder.

But she was not alone.

A man in a laboratory coat entered behind her.

His face remained hidden from the hallway camera.

The badge scanner identified him as Dr. Leonard Shaw.

Sherman Biotech’s chief scientist.

Dr. L.

Elijah stared at the screen.

“Leonard developed SN-14.”

Naomi asked, “Why would he help Cassandra poison Toby?”

Elijah could not answer.

Then Detective Price received another company file.

SN-14’s development program was close to failure.

Investors planned to cancel it within days.

A severe pediatric allergic emergency successfully reversed by the drug could change everything.

Even if the emergency had to be created first.

Cassandra had not given Toby medicine to save him.

She and Leonard may have poisoned him to manufacture a miracle.
