Chapter 7 - What Preston Signed

At nine-thirty on the wedding morning, Sofia arrived at the bridal suite with coffee, a document folder, and a look Giulietta had learned to trust.

“It’s done,” Sofia said.

Giulietta closed the vanity drawer and turned. “Tell me.”

Sofia opened the folder. “The marriage license packet Preston signed during the civil pre-registration included the Marconi Household Charter. Your father’s original language stayed intact.”

Giulietta let out a slow breath.

Antonio Marconi had been many things—formal, stubborn, occasionally theatrical. After Marco’s death, he had revised the family’s estate language to protect Luca from exactly the kind of opportunist who might use Giulietta’s grief to climb into power.

Under the charter, any spouse marrying Giulietta entered the Marconi succession structure as a non-dominant family member with no management rights over Luca’s trust. If the spouse attempted coercion, financial interference, or abuse connected to trust assets, all marital claims froze immediately and control reverted fully to Giulietta with emergency review by Marconi counsel.

Sofia smiled faintly. “In plainer English?”

Giulietta raised a brow.

“Your fiancé signed papers assuming he was marrying into your fortune.” Sofia tapped the folder. “Legally, he married into your son’s protected empire.”

That explained the line that had been forming in Giulietta’s mind for days.

It was cruel.

It was precise.

And it was true.

“Can Warren challenge it?” Giulietta asked.

“He can try. But only after explaining why he pushed an unreviewed rider to seize your authority and why his son threatened a guardian of a protected heir.”

Giulietta took the folder and looked toward the mirror. The bride staring back at her looked composed. But underneath the silk and makeup, she was a mother with one job left.

Finish the trap.

Sofia lowered her voice. “The suite audio is live. Hallway cameras too. If they do what we think they’ll do, we’ll have it.”

Giulietta nodded. “And Margaret?”

“In a holding room with Enzo. Safe.”

Outside, wedding guests were arriving downstairs, smiling for cameras and pretending beautiful families always stayed beautiful behind closed doors.

Giulietta slipped her ring onto her finger one last time.

“Let them come,” she said.
