Chapter 9 - The Slap Heard Through the Hall

What happened next became the clip every guest would replay that night.

Preston lifted the belt high.

“My father used this to teach my mother submission,” he said coldly.

Giulietta reached up, removed her engagement ring, and placed it on the vanity with a soft click.

Then he swung.

He never landed the hit.

Giulietta twisted out of the way, caught his wrist, and slapped him so hard his head snapped sideways. The sound ricocheted off the mirrors. Preston staggered backward, slammed into the sofa, and went down with a stunned, breathless curse.

Before he could get up, the suite door flew open.

Warren Hale charged in like he owned the room.

“You are marrying my son,” he shouted in anger.

Giulietta turned toward him slowly.

The hallway behind her filled with dark suits.

Enzo Marconi stood at the center, flanked by the family’s senior security team—men the Hales had mistaken for drivers, event staff, and logistical support all week. They said nothing. They didn’t need to.

Warren’s face changed.

The power left him so fast it was almost graceful.

Giulietta looked from father to son and delivered the line Warren would later insist he never forgot.

“No. Your son is the one marrying *my* son.”

Preston had pushed himself halfway up by then, confusion flooding his face.

Giulietta picked up the ring from the vanity and closed it in her palm. “Now you know whose family this really is.”

Warren tried to recover. “What the hell is this?”

Enzo stepped inside at last. “A recorded felony, if you’d like the short version.”

Preston went pale.

Warren looked toward the hallway cameras for the first time.

Then Sofia entered holding a tablet already streaming the suite footage.

And behind her, to Warren’s absolute horror, came Margaret.

His first wife.

The woman he had erased.

She looked him dead in the eye and said, “This time, everyone gets to hear it.”
