Chapter 7 - Parker Event Holdings

Detective Morales picked up one of the blurred invoices using gloved fingers.

“Parker Event Holdings was incorporated three years ago.”

Ava looked at Ethan.

They had met eighteen months earlier.

Margaret had created the company before Ava entered their lives.

“What was it for?” Ava asked.

Margaret crossed her arms.

“Consulting.”

“Consulting for whom?”

“That is none of your business.”

“It became my business when you transferred my money into it.”

Detective Morales turned a page in her folder.

“The company received deposits from four other women connected to Ethan.”

Ethan’s head snapped up.

Ava felt cold spread through her chest.

“What women?”

“Two former girlfriends, one former business partner and a woman listed as a private investor.”

Ethan shook his head.

“That’s not what it looks like.”

Ava almost smiled.

“That sentence must be exhausting.”

The detective continued.

“Each woman deposited money into an account controlled by Parker Event Holdings. Each was told the funds were being used for a shared future investment. None received repayment.”

Ava looked from Ethan to Margaret.

This was not desperation.

It was a pattern.

“How much did you take from them?”

Margaret said nothing.

“More than six hundred thousand dollars combined,” Detective Morales replied.

Rosa covered her mouth.

Ethan moved toward the hallway.

Officer Grant stopped him.

“Stay in the room.”

“I need air.”

“You can have air on the porch when we are finished securing the scene.”

Ava watched Ethan’s confidence fracture.

He had always been charming under pressure.

At restaurants, he could make an angry server laugh.

At work events, he could turn criticism into applause.

But there was no audience left to impress.

Only evidence.

Margaret pointed at him.

“He found them. I only handled paperwork.”

Ethan stared at his mother.

“You told me the accounts were legal.”

“You knew exactly what they were.”

“You said nobody would prosecute if we paid them back.”

Ava closed her eyes for one second.

Every accusation revealed another layer.

Every attempt to escape pulled them deeper.

Detective Morales asked, “Were you planning to use Ava’s trust to repay the previous women?”

Neither answered.

They did not need to.

The truth was suddenly visible in the order of events.

Each new woman had funded the lies told to the last.

Ava was not the first target.

She was supposed to be the final rescue.

Then Rosa spoke.

“There is another account.”

Margaret’s head whipped toward her.

Rosa’s voice trembled, but she continued.

“The account in the baby’s name.”

May you like

Ava stopped breathing.

👉 The Parkers had created a financial account using Ava’s unborn child.
