Chapter 11 - The Trap at the Mansion

Emily did not follow Grant’s instructions.

She immediately told Captain Bennett.

Federal agents traced the call to a disposable phone near the mansion.

Grant wanted Emily to believe he controlled the meeting.

Instead, law enforcement built the plan around him.

Emily agreed to enter the mansion wearing a concealed microphone.

Richard objected.

“You’ve already survived enough.”

Emily looked at him.

“I spent a year obeying threats because I thought silence kept me safe. I need to finish this.”

The mansion had been empty since Easter.

The scattered decorations were gone, but Emily could still see where the basket had overturned.

Grant called again.

“Go to Ethan’s office.”

Emily entered.

The wall safe stood open.

A laptop rested on the desk.

Grant appeared from behind the curtains holding a pistol low against his leg.

Emily stopped breathing.

Agents were positioned outside, but Grant had demanded that her phone remain on the foyer table.

The concealed microphone was still transmitting.

“Where’s the recording?” he asked.

“In a secure account.”

“Transfer it.”

Emily sat at the laptop.

She deliberately entered the wrong password.

Grant moved closer.

“Don’t play games.”

“You’re already exposed.”

“Ethan is exposed. I can still disappear.”

“You threatened my father.”

Grant smiled.

“Your father is the reason Ethan’s company collapsed. He refused our investment proposal and started asking questions.”

Emily understood.

The abuse intensified after Richard rejected Ethan’s company.

Ethan wanted revenge and access to Emily’s inheritance.

Grant wanted money.

Their motives had merged around her.

She looked at the laptop screen.

“You were never going to let me leave this house.”

Grant did not answer.

That silence was the admission agents needed.

Emily continued.

“You planned to kill me and blame Ethan.”

Grant raised the gun slightly.

“Ethan created a very convincing history.”

A voice came from the hallway.

“No, he created evidence against himself.”

Daniel Caldwell stepped into view.

Grant turned.

Daniel threw himself behind a marble column as agents burst through two entrances.

Grant tried to run toward the kitchen.

Captain Bennett intercepted him.

The weapon fell across the rug.

Within seconds, he was restrained.

Emily remained seated at the desk, shaking.

Richard rushed inside only after the scene was secured.

She stood and crossed the room.

He wrapped his arms around her.

“You never have to prove your courage to me,” he whispered.

Emily looked toward the place where Ethan had struck her.

May you like

“I needed to prove it to myself.”

👉 Grant’s arrest ended the immediate danger, but Ethan’s trial would force Emily to confront him one final time.
