Chapter 14 - The Proxy Natalia Signed

Damian called Marcus.

“Freeze every council legal account.”

Marcus answered through the speaker.

“Already in progress.”

“Find the attorney who filed the proxy.”

“We have the name. Elliot Crane.”

Katelyn breathed through another contraction.

“How did Natalia become my proxy?”

The nurse enlarged the document.

A signature appeared at the bottom.

Katelyn Hayes.

It looked almost perfect.

But the final stroke curved left.

Katelyn’s signature always ended to the right.

“Forged,” she said.

Damian stared at it.

“They planned this.”

“Yes.”

“If labor began when you were alone…”

“Natalia would control access.”

“And the council could claim the child.”

Katelyn’s fear turned into rage.

She had spent months worrying about rent.

Doctor appointments.

A crib.

Diapers.

Meanwhile, powerful strangers had prepared legal documents for the moment she gave birth.

Damian moved closer.

“I won’t let them near you.”

Katelyn met his eyes.

“I don’t need a promise.”

“What do you need?”

“Proof.”

Damian nodded.

No offense.

No argument.

“Then I’ll give you proof.”

He contacted an independent attorney.

Not a Blackwood lawyer.

Not anyone connected to his family.

Within an hour, the forged proxy was challenged and suspended.

Hospital security received photographs of Natalia, Arthur, Elliot, and every council representative.

No one could enter without Katelyn’s permission.

Natalia arrived anyway.

She stood beyond the locked maternity doors wearing the same cream fur coat.

Her hair was no longer perfect.

Her eyes were red.

“Please,” she told security. “I need to speak to Damian.”

He went into the corridor but kept the glass doors between them.

Natalia pressed one hand to the glass.

“I can explain.”

“You forged medical authority over Katelyn.”

“My attorney prepared it.”

“You signed it.”

“I thought the child could be protected.”

“From its mother?”

“From the council.”

Damian stared at her.

“You expect me to believe you were helping?”

Natalia’s voice cracked.

“I knew Arthur would take the baby. I thought if I became proxy, I could stop him.”

“By controlling Katelyn’s medical decisions?”

“I panicked.”

“You always call it love when you mean possession.”

Natalia’s face collapsed.

Then she pulled a small key from her pocket.

“Arthur has a private nursery in the council residence.”

Damian went still.

“What?”

“He has been preparing it for months.”

She pressed the key against the glass.

“There are records inside. Contracts. Guardianship papers. Everything.”

Damian looked back toward Katelyn’s room.

Natalia continued.

“I can help you destroy him.”

Damian’s voice stayed cold.

“Why now?”

May you like

“Because he told me I was never supposed to survive the scandal.”

👉 Natalia finally turned against the council—but the evidence she offered required Damian to leave Katelyn during the most dangerous hours of labor.
