Chapter 17 - The Result Arthur Hid
The report was dated seven months earlier.
It compared Damian’s stored medical sample with fetal genetic material obtained from Katelyn’s stolen clinic records.
Probability of paternity: 99.99%.
Damian read it twice.
Then a third time.
Arthur had known.
Natalia had known the report existed.
The council had known Grace was Damian’s child before Katelyn herself knew anyone was watching.
Every false report afterward had been designed for court.
Not truth.
One test to frighten Damian away.

A third waiting to restore paternity only after the council controlled the baby.
Marcus looked at him.
“They planned every version.”
Damian stared through the NICU glass.

“They planned my daughter.”
“Yes.”

The independent hospital test later confirmed the same result.

“To protect both of you.”

“I want the years we lost.”
“We can’t have them.”
“I know.”
“I don’t know if I can trust you.”
“I know.”

“I know.”
His answers were not dramatic.
They were honest.
Katelyn looked at the report.
“Then what happens now?”
“You decide.”

The next morning, Arthur Crane was charged with fraud, conspiracy, falsifying judicial documents, unlawful medical access, and attempted custodial interference.
Natalia entered protective custody after agreeing to testify.
Samuel surrendered all records connected to Katelyn’s disappearance.
The family council dissolved under emergency court supervision.
