Chapter 5 - The Heir No One Was Supposed to Know

Damian went still.

“What trust?”

Natalia swallowed.

“The Founders Trust.”

Marcus looked sharply toward Damian.

Even Katelyn recognized the name.

The Blackwood Founders Trust controlled warehouses, shipping contracts, commercial properties, and private investments across three states.

It was worth billions.

Damian had once told Katelyn the trust could never be inherited by one person.

It was controlled by a family council.

Or so he had believed.

Natalia shook her head.

“Your father found an older amendment.”

Damian’s eyes hardened.

“What amendment?”

“If the eldest direct Blackwood heir had a biological child before age forty, full voting authority would pass to that child’s legal guardian until the child turned twenty-five.”

Katelyn’s heart pounded.

Damian was thirty-nine.

The baby beneath her heart was due in less than six weeks.

Natalia continued.

“Vincent believed Katelyn would control everything through the baby.”

Katelyn stared at her.

“I didn’t know anything about a trust.”

“That didn’t matter to him.”

Damian looked toward Marcus.

“Did you know?”

“No, sir.”

“Find the amendment.”

Marcus immediately stepped away to make a call.

Katelyn felt trapped.

The boutique.

The bodyguards.

The wealth.

The child suddenly discussed like a legal weapon.

She grabbed her shopping basket.

“I’m leaving.”

Damian moved aside.

He did not block her.

But when Katelyn took two steps, Natalia said, “You can’t let her walk out with your heir.”

Katelyn spun around.

“My baby is not property.”

Damian’s voice cut through the room.

“No one said the child was.”

“She did.”

“And she no longer speaks for me.”

Natalia stared at him.

“I’m your fiancée.”

“Not after today.”

The words landed brutally.

Natalia’s face collapsed.

“You don’t mean that.”

“I do.”

“You’re ending our engagement because she walked into a store pregnant?”

“I’m ending it because you took money to destroy my life.”

Natalia’s eyes filled with rage.

“You think she came here by accident?”

Katelyn froze.

“What does that mean?”

Natalia laughed bitterly.

“She knew you were shopping here.”

Damian looked at Katelyn.

She shook her head.

“I had no idea.”

Natalia pointed toward the white crib.

“That crib was reserved under Damian’s account. She chose this exact boutique, this exact day, and stood beside the exact display we were coming to see.”

Katelyn looked at the crib.

The saleswoman who had handed her the clinic envelope turned pale.

Damian noticed.

“Who arranged this meeting?”

The woman’s lips trembled.

“I was told not to say.”

“By whom?”

She looked toward the back office.

A security monitor flickered.

A man stood on the rear loading dock watching the live camera feed.

Katelyn recognized him immediately.
