Chapter 15 - The Order He Couldn’t Stop

The filing requested immediate preservation of all assets connected to Holland Development, Crestview Urban Partners, and the Madeline Fisher Trust.

Aiden surged forward.

“You can’t file that.”

Daniel stepped between him and Alice.

“It has already been accepted electronically.”

Madeline gripped Aiden’s arm.

“You said she had nothing.”

“Be quiet.”

The cruelty in his voice stunned her.

Alice stopped at the courthouse entrance and turned.

For months, Madeline had treated Alice like a defeated wife standing between her and a glamorous future.

Now she looked frightened.

Aiden lowered his voice.

“Alice, think carefully. If you attack the company, everyone loses.”

“You told me the company was worth sixty-two thousand dollars.”

His mouth opened.

No answer came.

Daniel held up a sealed copy.

“Then preserving it shouldn’t concern you.”

Madeline released Aiden’s arm.

“What exactly did you put in my trust?”

Several people on the courthouse steps turned toward them.

Aiden’s mask cracked.

“This is not the place.”

Madeline stared at him.

“You said the transfers were legal.”

Alice finally understood Madeline’s weakness.

She was cruel and complicit—but Aiden had not told her everything either.

He had used her name as a hiding place.
