The medical records looked professional.
Hospital letterhead.
Dates.
Doctor’s signature.
A diagnosis.
Medication recommendations.
Everything was fake.
The physician named on the paperwork had never treated Daniel.
The hospital confirmed the file numbers belonged to unrelated patients.
Someone had built a complete medical history designed to portray Daniel as unstable.
Margaret intended to use it if the kitchen confrontation failed.
The forged records claimed Daniel suffered episodes of uncontrolled aggression.
Vanessa’s edited videos would support them.
Margaret’s testimony would reinforce them.
The staged injuries involving Lily would provide emotional weight.
Together, they could create enough confusion for an emergency court hearing.
Not necessarily permanent custody.
They did not need permanent custody yet.
They only needed temporary control.
Time.
Access.
A legal foothold.
Daniel’s attorneys traced the fake records to a document-preparation service.
The service owner admitted creating forms for a woman using a false name.
Security video from his office showed Vanessa.
She wore sunglasses and a hat.
It did not matter.
Her face was clear.
The owner had kept payment records.
Margaret’s credit card funded the work.
Both women were connected.
But another document inside Margaret’s room created a different mystery.
A copy of Grace’s death certificate.
Several handwritten notes.
Hospital dates.
Medication names.
Questions about toxicology testing.
Daniel stared at the pages.
Grace died after a sudden medical decline.
Doctors attributed it to complications from an undiagnosed heart condition.
Daniel had never questioned it.
Now he saw his wife’s death certificate inside a folder filled with forged evidence.
He immediately feared the worst.
Police warned him not to make assumptions.
There was no evidence Margaret or Vanessa caused Grace’s death.
Vanessa had not even met Daniel then.
Margaret was difficult, but suspicion was not proof.
Still, why had she collected Grace’s medical records?
Charles remembered something.
Grace had confronted Margaret two weeks before she died.
The argument was about Lily’s DNA test.
Grace accused Margaret of trying to destroy her marriage.
Margaret threatened to challenge Lily’s inheritance.
Charles knew because Grace called him immediately afterward.
Daniel had never heard about that call.
Grace protected him from the conflict while he was caring for their infant daughter.
The medical folder might simply have been Margaret researching whether Grace’s estate could be challenged.
Then investigators found a handwritten note beneath the death certificate.
It contained one sentence:
“Grace signed before hospital.”
Signed what?
Daniel did not know.
