Chapter 8 - LEONOR’S EXPLANATION

Leonor eventually admitted contaminating the honey.

But not immediately.

Her first explanation:

I had done it.

She claimed I wanted to make Mateo sick so Nicolás would depend on me.

The accusation was not impossible in abstract terms.

Caregiver-induced illness exists.

Investigators therefore examined me too.

My phone.

Work history.

Access.

Notes.

Background.

Financial relationship with Nicolás.

No affair.

No secret payments.

No insurance interest.

No searches about pesticides before discovering the bottle.

My documentation consistently urged medical evaluation rather than discouraging it.

Then Leonor’s own video surveillance became relevant.

She had cameras in common areas of the villa.

Footage showed her repeatedly preparing Mateo’s milk herself before several episodes.

One recording showed her carrying the contaminated honey from the pantry.

Not administering pesticide directly.

But increasingly difficult to reconcile with her accusations against me.
