Chapter 4 - THE VIDEO

We did not watch alone.

Attorney.

Claire.

Me.

Three people.

The footage showed our kitchen.

Graham had apparently been testing a home security camera.

I entered frame.

Judith was arguing with me.

Then Graham.

Words became louder.

I tried to leave.

Graham grabbed my wrist.

I pulled away.

Judith blocked the doorway.

Then Graham shoved me.

I struck the counter.

Hard.

That explained the ribs.

Not bathroom.

Not clumsiness.

Then something worse.

I heard myself say:

“I’m calling Claire.”

Graham took my phone.

Judith said:

“Give her something. She’s hysterical.”

He gave me a pill.

I took it.

Because at that point I still trusted my husband.

Twenty minutes later, I was barely coherent.

Then Graham called the ambulance.

His story:

I slipped.

The footage ended.

I threw up.

Not because I had discovered violence.

Some part of me knew.

I threw up because I saw how calmly they built the lie afterward.

Then another card.

Christmas.

Judith slamming the door against my shoulder.

Another.

Garage.

Judith bumping me from behind.

Graham laughing afterward.

Not every injury was deliberate.

But enough were.

And they documented them.

Then my attorney found something missing.

The earliest cards began eighteen months earlier.

Yet Judith’s note about an incapacity petition was dated two years earlier.

Meaning the plan started before the cameras.

Why?

What changed two years ago?

My father died.

And I inherited something Graham had never been able to touch.

A commercial property worth nearly three million dollars.

Suddenly my marriage had a financial motive I had never wanted to consider.

But the next document complicated everything.

Graham had signed a letter refusing Judith’s plan.

Two years earlier.

Mom, stop. I’m not taking Nora’s inheritance.

So when did he change?

And why?
