Chapter 4 - The Diagnosis I Never Received

Naomi’s investigator found the file within hours.
A private psychiatric clinic had issued a letter stating that I suffered from acute paranoia, emotional instability, and impaired financial judgment.
The letter claimed I had attended three confidential evaluations.
I had never entered the clinic.
The doctor’s name was Dr. Martin Kessler.
I recognized him.
He played golf with Ryan.
Patricia chaired a charity where he served on the advisory board.
The report contained details from my private life.
My father’s death.
My leave from work.
My concerns about Ryan’s spending.
Real facts twisted into symptoms.
The letter said I believed people close to me were conspiring to steal my property.
They were.
That was the sick brilliance of the plan.
If I told the truth, the truth itself would be presented as proof I was delusional.
Naomi contacted the clinic pretending to verify an appointment.
The receptionist confirmed that my records had been created under a confidential billing account.
The account was paid by Carter Development Group.
Ryan’s company.
We requested the original consent forms.
They contained my signature.
A forgery.
But the signature was good.
Almost perfect.
Someone had access to years of my legal filings.
Someone inside the company.
I thought of Ryan’s executive assistant, Melissa.
She handled our household calendar.
She had copies of my passport, tax filings, and trust records.
When Naomi’s investigator called her, Melissa refused to speak.
Then she sent me a message from an unknown number.
I didn’t know what they were planning. Meet me alone.
Naomi advised against it.
We compromised.
Melissa met us in the lobby of a downtown hotel with security cameras covering every entrance.
She looked terrified.
Ryan had ordered her to create digital copies of my signature.
He said they were needed for an urgent refinancing.
Patricia later asked her to schedule fake appointments at Dr. Kessler’s clinic.
“When did you realize it was fraud?” I asked.
“Two weeks ago.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Ryan said he would blame everything on me.”
Melissa handed Naomi a flash drive.
It contained emails, draft petitions, forged forms, and voice notes.
One voice note was from Patricia.
She instructed Melissa to build a timeline showing I had become unstable after my father died.
Another came from Ryan.
“If Emily signs willingly, destroy all of it. If she refuses, we file.”
Melissa began crying.
“I’m sorry.”
I believed she was sorry.
That did not make her innocent.
But cooperation mattered.
Then she revealed one final detail.
Ryan had scheduled a board meeting for Monday morning.
The board would vote to remove me permanently from every position connected to Carter Development Group.
The meeting invitation described me as medically unavailable.
And Ryan had invited someone to replace me.
May you like
His mistress.
👉 Emily knew Ryan wanted her property—but she was about to learn that he had also promised her job, home, and marriage to another woman.
