Chapter 11 - THE DEBT

Diane’s company wasn’t losing money because of George.
It was losing money because Diane had invested in a private development project that collapsed.
Luxury senior residences.
Three states.
Aggressive financing.
Bad timing.
Then suspected self-dealing by the developer.
Diane personally guaranteed loans to look wealthier than she was.
She lost millions.
Ryan stared at the forensic accountant’s summary.
“She told me Dad left debt.”
“He didn’t.”
“No.”
George had left Diane financially comfortable.
She destroyed most of it afterward.
That changed motive again.
Diane wasn’t protecting Ryan’s inheritance.
She was protecting her own status.
Then another transaction appeared.
$300,000 transferred from Parker Family Ventures to Thomas Bell’s clinic.
Investment agreement.
That explained Thomas’s loyalty more clearly.
Diane didn’t merely lend him money.
She owned a financial interest.
If Diane collapsed, Thomas could lose his clinic expansion.
Thomas’s supposed medical concern about me existed inside a financial dependency.
Rebecca referred the records to the appropriate professionals and authorities.
No instant arrests.
No dramatic license revocation.
Just scrutiny.
Thomas hired his own attorney.
Then he requested a formal meeting.
He looked exhausted.
“I’m going to tell you what happened.”
Ryan sat beside his attorney.
I sat beside mine.
Thomas admitted Diane asked him hypothetical questions about my mental health months earlier.
He told her he couldn’t evaluate me without seeing me.
Then he did something he regretted.
He drafted language.
“Why?”
“I owed her money.”
At least he said it plainly.
“Did you believe I was unstable?”
“No.”
My jaw tightened.
“Then why write it?”
“Because she said it was for Ryan’s lawyer to understand possible concerns.”
“And you never asked why my name was on it?”
“I should have.”
“Yes.”
Then Thomas revealed a bigger fact.
Diane had wanted him to prescribe me medication.
Anti-anxiety medication.
Without examining me.
He refused.
She became furious.
“Did Ryan know?”
Thomas looked at Ryan.
“Yes.”
I turned.
Ryan’s face collapsed.
“When?”
“Two weeks ago.”
Two weeks.
While he was filming Lily.
While he knew Diane forged my messages.
While he knew she wanted a medical narrative.
He still said nothing.
That was the third major payoff.
Ryan’s silence wasn’t one bad decision.
It was repeated.
Active.
Chosen.
Then Thomas said:
“I think Ryan was afraid of her.”
I looked at him.
“So was Lily.”
That ended the sympathy.
Fear explained.
It did not excuse.
But Thomas had one more piece.
Diane told him:
If Ryan grows a spine, I have the basement file.
Ryan looked genuinely confused.
“What basement file?”
For once, I believed he didn’t know.

And Diane had just revealed she kept leverage against her own son too.
📖 Diane controlled Ryan with fear just as she controlled everyone else, and the hidden basement file would show exactly what she had been threatening to expose. 👇
