Chapter 9 - GEORGE’S RECORDS

George had been ill.

That was the truth.

The neurologist’s records showed real vascular cognitive impairment.

Memory lapses.

Executive-function decline.

Periods of confusion.

Diane had not invented everything.

That mattered.

Then the medication records complicated it.

George was prescribed a sleep medication.

Thomas increased the dose twice.

Both increases occurred after Diane reported nighttime agitation.

No independent evidence showed Diane secretly drugged him.

No poisoning.

No hidden murder.

I could see disappointment and relief collide on Ryan’s face.

He had spent twenty-four hours imagining his mother killed his father.

She hadn’t.

At least nothing in the records supported that.

But another note did.

A nurse documented George saying:

“My wife keeps telling everyone I’m worse than I am.”

A social-work referral was recommended.

It was canceled.

By Thomas.

Reason:

Family misunderstanding resolved.

Rebecca stared at that line.

“Now that matters.”

Thomas had intervened in a safeguard process while financially connected to Diane.

That relationship had never been disclosed.

Again, not proof of every accusation.

But real conflict.

Meanwhile, Diane struck back.

She hired counsel.

Her statement claimed I assaulted her.

She described herself as a grandmother trying to manage a “developmentally troubled toddler.”

The arrogance of that phrase made me shake.

Then she submitted Ryan’s old recordings.

Edited.

In one clip, Lily cried while I raised my voice.

Context removed.

The full clip existed in the cloud.

I was shouting because Lily had started choking on food and Ryan froze.

The complete video showed me performing first aid and calling her pediatrician afterward.

Diane’s version ended before that.

Another altered narrative.

Rebecca smiled for the first time.

“This is why preserving originals matters.”

Diane’s effort to portray me as unstable weakened when side-by-side footage showed selective editing.

But then Marissa Cole, the consultant, contacted us voluntarily.

She had discovered the intake account was fake.

More importantly, she had never been told the videos were staged around Diane’s “discipline.”

Ryan told her the clips documented spontaneous child reactions.

Marissa was furious.

She provided emails.

One was from Ryan.

Need report language strong enough that Emma can’t dismiss this.

I looked at him.

He had written it two weeks after discovering Diane altered my messages.

That ended one excuse permanently.

He had known the foundation was false.

He continued anyway.

Ryan didn’t ask me to forgive him.

He said:

“I thought if I finished the report, Mom would stop.”

I stared at him.

“That doesn’t even make sense.”

“I know.”

And that was the frightening part.

Manipulation had become habit.

His mother created the problem.

Then convinced him only further obedience could solve it.

But the next email was from Diane to Thomas.

Once Emma is removed, Ryan signs the house papers.

The house.

My house.

Not Lily’s trust.

There was another target.

📖 Diane’s plan was larger than controlling Lily’s trust; she also expected Ryan to sign away rights connected to my home, and he had already received the paperwork. 👇
