Chapter 6 - THE BACKUP HEIR

Rose was eighteen months old.

She had been created from Clara’s genetic material and Dominic’s.

Unlike Eli, she was Dominic’s biological child.

The Ward plan required competing claims.

If Nathan’s son failed to activate the trust, Dominic’s daughter could.

Children were not family to them.

They were legal strategies.

Rose lived with a woman named Sienna Brooks in a coastal house.

Sienna claimed to be Dominic’s cousin.

Records showed she was his first wife.

Their marriage had never legally ended.

Dominic’s marriage to Clara was invalid.

Sienna knew about the fertility program.

She raised Rose and expected to become Sterling guardian after Clara’s death.

Then she learned Dominic planned to replace her too.

She cooperated with investigators.

No immunity.

She provided audio of Dominic saying:

“Clara only needs to survive until the baby is recognized.”

The porch attack had not been meant to kill Clara.

It had been meant to frighten her into my home and activate the trust.

But Dominic’s violence escalated beyond his own plan.

Then Sienna revealed a third child.

One I had given birth to.
