Chapter 15 - The Unseen Mastermind
The live satellite video feed on the flash drive opened.
It showed a live camera view pointing at my porch.
It showed me sitting at the wooden table reading.
Whoever sent the box was watching me right now.
My heart pounded violently against my aching chest ribs.
I stood up from the porch chair fast today.
My hand reached inside my blazer for my sidearm.
My fingers closed tightly around the cold steel grip.
A slow, heavy floorboard creaked on the porch outside.
Footsteps approached my heavy front oak entrance door fast.
The electronic deadbolt lock chimed with a soft beep.
The keycard reader flashed green on the door frame.
Whoever was outside held a master digital keycard.
The heavy oak front door swung open slowly inside.
A tall man stepped into the dimly lit hallway.
He wore an immaculate, expensive dark tailored silk suit.
His silver hair was styled neatly, his eyes cold.
His facial features matched the photo down to every line.
It was my biological father, standing right before me.
He looked at my raised firearm and smiled warmly.
A chilling, terrifying smile of pure paternal pride.
"Lower the gun, Claire," my father whispered softly.
His voice sounded calm, commanding, and utterly fearless.
"You did exceptionally well defeating Linda and Vanessa."
"They were weak and careless with those accounts."
"I taught you to be strong, my daughter."
I did not lower the barrel by one single inch.
"You sacrificed thirty years of my life, you monster!"
My father took a slow, deliberate step inside room.
"I built a global financial empire for you, Claire."
"And tonight, the real work begins for us."
She reached into his inner suit pocket slowly now.
I tightened my grip on the curved trigger guard.
He pulled out a heavy black leather document file.
He set the file onto my hallway glass table.
"Inside this folder is the real global blueprint."
