Chapter 4 - THE PILLS
Robert took medication for hypertension.
Months earlier, his doctor had reduced one dose after episodes of dizziness.
Helen managed most of his prescriptions because Robert routinely forgot refills.
At the hospital, medication reconciliation revealed something odd.
His pill count did not match expected use.
Too many tablets were missing from an older prescription bottle containing the stronger dosage.
Helen swore Robert no longer used those tablets.
Could he have taken them accidentally?
Yes.
That had to be considered.
Then investigators found the old bottle.
Not in Robert’s medicine cabinet.
In a trash bin inside the garage.
Fingerprints alone would not solve anything.
Household objects are handled.
But the bottle mattered.
So did the study footage.
So did Khloe’s account.
And then Robert remembered the taste.
“Bitter.”
His iced tea had tasted unusually bitter several times during the previous month.
He assumed Helen changed sweetener.
She had not.
Why would Derek want Robert dizzy?
That became the central question.
The answer was not hidden in some billion-dollar inheritance.
It was much more ordinary.
