Chapter 15 - The Name Chloe Never Said

The visitation room was silent.

Chloe sat across from me.

The paper was still folded in her small hand.

For five years, I thought my enemy was one person.

The prosecutor.

The evidence.

The judge.

The warden.

But Chloe knew something bigger.

She looked at me.

“Daddy…”

Her voice trembled.

“I didn’t tell you everything.”

My heart stopped.

“What do you mean?”

She looked toward the guards.

Then toward the warden standing behind the glass.

Slowly, she placed the folded paper on the table.

I reached for it.

But before I opened it, my phone from my lawyer rang.

One new message.

One attachment.

A photograph.

The picture showed the night I was arrested.

And standing beside Warden Mitchell was someone I never expected to see.

Someone who had promised to save me.

Someone whose name was written on Chloe’s paper.

My lawyer’s message contained only one sentence:

“Gavin, your daughter found the person who put you here.”
