Chapter 15 - The Box Beneath The Shed

I returned to the backyard.

The shed was empty now.

No lock.

No chains.

No darkness.

Only memories of what my grandfather survived.

Captain Whitmore stood beside an old wooden box.

“We found this underneath the floor.”

I opened it slowly.

Inside were photographs.

Letters.

And a sealed envelope.

My grandfather’s name was written on it.

But the date was from thirty years earlier.

I looked at Grandpa.

His face changed when he saw it.

“Claire…”

His voice trembled.

“I hoped nobody would ever find that.”

I opened the envelope carefully.

Inside was a single page.

“Henry, if you are reading this, then Michael has finally done what I feared…”
