Chapter 4 - The Papers Beneath The Floor

I searched my grandfather’s room.
Not because I wanted revenge.
Because I needed proof.
My family had years of experience making people doubt reality.
I needed something they couldn’t explain away.
Inside an old wooden box, I found documents.
Bank records.
Property papers.
Medical forms.
Then I found the one that mattered.
A transfer agreement.
Grandpa’s house.
Signed over.
To Michael.
But the signature looked wrong.
I took a photo.
Then I noticed something else.
A second page.
A handwritten note.
“If anything happens to me, Claire must see this.”
My breath stopped.
Grandpa had prepared for this.
He knew.
Then I heard footsteps.
Michael stood in the doorway.
“You shouldn’t be looking through that.”
I held up the paper.
“You shouldn’t have locked him away.”
His expression hardened.
