Chapter 15 - The Wedding Photograph

Weeks later, Nora removed the framed wedding photograph from her living room.
The image had been taken only minutes after the ceremony.
Madison looked radiant.
Ryan’s hand rested at her waist.
Gloria stood behind them with one hand on Madison’s shoulder.
Daniel noticed something no one had seen before.
Gloria was looking at the handbag containing the property documents.
Not at the couple.
The photograph captured the entire truth.
Madison had been celebrating love.
The Mercers had been waiting for the signing.
Nora lifted the frame.
“I want to throw it away.”
Madison stopped her.
“Not yet.”
She turned it over.
Behind the cardboard backing was a small envelope.
A hotel employee had slipped it there during evidence collection.
Inside was a memory card from the bridal suite security system.
Ryan had insisted the private lounge cameras be disabled.
But the hotel maintained hidden emergency cameras near all exit doors.
The footage did not show the entire room.
It showed enough.
Ryan locking the door.
Gloria opening the second entrance.
Colin and Matthew moving into position.
Madison rushing toward the exit.
Ryan pulling her backward.
The stool striking the doorway.
Madison escaping with blood on her dress.
The footage destroyed the last possibility that Ryan could call the incident a misunderstanding.
It also captured one final sentence from Gloria after Madison fled.
“Get the backup signature page.”

There had been another document.
One the police had not yet found.
